Plea deal in Cleveland sex-slave horror? « The Greenroom

Plea deal in Cleveland sex-slave horror? « The Greenroom: "There could be a couple of reasons why a prosecutor would offer a plea deal in a case like this, even with overwhelming evidence of guilt.  First, the prosecutors might not feel completely comfortable that a jury will convict on the murder charges, which would take the death penalty off the table anyway.  But it’s more likely that the state would like to spare the victims the further trauma of a trial if possible, in exchange for so many consecutive life sentences that Castro will be assured to never leave maximum security.  That also eliminates any appeals, which means that the victims will be freed of dealing with Castro and the case immediately."
